Eat Your Way to Better Vision
It’s true that your body is a machine. And like any other machine, it needs the proper care and fuel to operate efficiently. If you put regular gas in a high-performance sports car, the motor won’t run as well, and you’ll definitely notice a difference in the way it drives. The same is true for your body, including your eyes. Consider including more of these power health foods to boost your vision.

Vitamins A, C, and E, and minerals such as copper and zinc. Greasy, sugary foods don’t provide any nutrition or benefit to your eyes. In fact, a diet full of fatty, sugary foods can damage your eyes over time. Eating foods rich in these vitamins and minerals can help your eyes function better: carrots, asparagus, red peppers, broccoli, spinach, strawberries, sweet potatoes, and citrus fruits.

Water. The average human body contains 50–65% water. So, it only makes sense that we need to keep that ratio to keep our body’s biome healthy and functioning.

Antioxidants. Antioxidants, such as beta-carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin, protect the macula from sun damage. You’ll find these antioxidants in yellow and green foods, such as dark, leafy greens, broccoli, zucchini, yellow peppers, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, carrots, and eggs.

Omega-3 fatty acids. Your eyes need omega-3s for structural support to the eye cell membranes and to boost your eye health. You can find these nutrients in flaxseed, almonds, and pistachios as well as cold-water fish, such as salmon, sardines, mackerel, and cod.

Screen Time: Digital screens (laptops, smartphones, computers, tablets) can harm your vision over time: from eye strain, to dryness, redness, and irritation. You can also practice palming your eyes to give them a break.

By practicing simple eye exercises in the morning and at night, or any time your eyes feel tired, you may notice better vision over time. Here are a few eye exercises to try.

Roll your eyes. Look up then slowly circle your eyes 10 times in one direction, then switch.

Focus. Hold a pen, pencil or similar object at arm’s length. Focus your eyes on it, then slowly move the object closer to about six inches from your nose. Then slowly move it back. Keep your eyes focused on the object the entire time. Do this 10 times.
